February 9: International Greek Language Day
November 9 was declared in 2017 as the international Greek language day. After years of efforts, the initiative to dedicate a day in the calendar year to one of the oldest spoken languages in the world succeeded.
The aim of the initiative was to promote the Greek language and remind the members of the Greek diaspora to keep the language alive by teaching it to the next generations.
Marialena Perpiraki is a journalist and writer from Athens, Greece. In 2020, she founded Helinika as a cross-media platform.
